hanging out

When in doubt, Hang out.
Hanging out is the new sitting on the coffee table. And since I don't have time to sit on the coffee table. Nor do I own a coffee table, hanging out works just fine for me. From Palm Beach to Paddington, check out my latest hanging spots.

peon-why

To my dear sweet peony,

Not a second goes by when my thoughts aren't on you. We have spent many novembers together, even sometimes decembers. And when you pop in through the year as a surprise. Oh! You are my delight.
I love your shades of baby pink, fluffy white, your coral...even your burning purple.
No day is ever the same with you. One minute you are closed, and the next you are full of life and ready for anything. I could watch you for hours.

However, I feel like something has changed.
Quite frankly, I think you have turned into a bit of a hussy. Im always seeing you out and about in the arms of other girls, sitting on window ledges and hanging out in every shop, cafe, and public toilet. You are clogging up my instagram feed with jealousy. You are always trying to out do fellow flowers. Opening bigger and better than the humble blooms... never sharing the limelight. But you know what?
I don't even think you smell good. There, I said it.

I know the whole world wants you. Have you no self control? Peon-why can't you just be mine?

Not so lovingly yours,

The Flower Drum

a little hollyday...

If you have been waiting for a good reason to visit The Flower Drum, well I have the best reason of all for you to visit me tomorrow. Tomorrow (saturday 24th) will be my last day of popping up @ The Sugarmill. With a long floral list that would rival that of Santa's, my schedule has become buzz up buttercup bizzy with events. For a while now I've been trying to master the disaster of being in two places at once.
Its actually physically impossible! I had to make a decision.
So a few weeks ago, I decided that this would be my last weekend at the shop over summer.
And as it were, the actual Sugarmill is relocating too!

Fear not my flamingos. I will be popping up again in the new year- somewhere so snazzy, you'll just sneeze with joy.
I want to say a huge big thank you to everyone who has been visiting me over the last year. I am so sad that I wont get to sit and drink coffee with you anymore! I have loved meeting you all and I will miss asking you billions of questions every Saturday about what you are having for lunch and what movies I should watch. YOU ARE THE BEST, and I am so lucky to have met you and made friends with you all!

THANK YOU/ THESE ARE FOR YOU
xox

PS> I am throwing a huge party next week. More on that later. You are invited!

free people

I am prettttty excited to show you this interview with the peeps from Free People

Heres a little snippet for all of you rose hunters out there
They asked me how to give the right flowers and I answered-
We know there is a color code to roses
This is my official unofficial colored rose giving guide:
Red: I love you. I want to make out with you.
Yellow: I think youre awesome, lets be friends.
White: I think youre amazing, and Im amazing too, so lets be amazing together.
Light pink: I wanted to give you the sun and the clouds in the sky, but I couldnt, so this will have to do.
Orange: Im secretly in love with you and want to smell your hair, but you dont know that.

Now go over here and read the whole lot ya'll!

spring racing

Over the last few weeks I have been designing an installation to go smack bang into Melbourne Central. Yes, as in - Melbourne. Big Deal!
So last week, it was time to make the idea the real deal. Yes I was nervous. I had only ordered 580 bunches of flowers. And at the last minute I was hurriedly stuffing them into my backpack as I ran out the door to catch my aeroplane.
And then I got to Melbourne, HOW GOOD IS MELBOURNE?
Have I told you what I was making? I didnt?
I made a flower wall, A really big (dont try this at home) one.
And no I didnt do it all by myself. I called out for a Melbourne intern, and amongst the line up of applicants, I read an email from Pip. She said something about pinatas. And her name was Pip. So that pretty much sealed the deal.

She informed me of these night time dancing in the dark classes which is kinda weird, and she is going to start delivering people vegetarian lunch snack packs ON HER BIKE under the name of hello aubergine. I know. Cute. She is one awesome tiny compacted human.
this is pip. isnt she cute?

To build the wall, I needed to work in a really big space, that was filled with some first class excellence. The home of Easey st. Easey st, is the place that you wished you lived in, but you cant because its where people work. The boys Jim Bob, Grayson and I cant remember the other guys name (im kidding, joel) look after some cool brands in there, the inhouse mega babe Lou of St Josephine looks after some even cooler brands and then theres anoushka from great sweet and photographer Steve Gourlay who also happened to be the handy man behind the great wall structure.
I tell you what, if I didn't live in Sydney, Id be parking my car there every day.
Collectively, they are so awesome they could start their own religion if they wanted to.
So Melbourne, if you want to visit this heart racing spring racing creation get down to Melbourne Central quicksticks, because thats where you will find it. It is all part of the excitement for The Spring Racing Carnival.
And you know whatelse, if you catch the elevator you will see maaaa name in there.
Now that is a big deal.

the flower bomb BANG

Its been nearly two years since the birth of the flower bomb, and not a day, hour, minute or second has gone by where I haven't had my mind buried deep in the happenings of a flower bomb exploding all over the universe and filling the world with flowers for all.
It has been my mission since november 2010 to make the bomb go BANG.
Never in my life have I wanted anything more.
And then it happened. And then I couldn't tell you. Not until now.

If you know me, I am the biggest worst secret keeper in the world. Fact. There are only about three secrets that I have kept without accidently spilling.
And this secret, it made me burst at the seams.

WELL HOLY CACTUS AND JAM SANDWICHES. IN THE GLORIOUS NAME OF SURF TRUNKS. THIS IS IT.
THE FLOWER BOMB. THE MOVIE.

To Trines and Andy at Analog, I want to thank you to the moon and back for making this happen. And also to Barrett and Myles, and the phantom camera man and the team of pyros. I FLIPPIN LOVE bomb yooooooooouuuuu.

Please head over HERE to find out more and click that like button.
Click it like you have never clicked on anything before. Like the shiz out of it.

A sneak look at the christmas shoot for real living mag that took place just a couple of weeks ago. (Yes in maggie magazine world, they do christmas in september and valentines day at christmas. V weird)
Anyway, no turkey, no tinsel, it was just a bunch of awesome clever babes being cute and sipping rose,  being merry in THE MOST well dressed, too good to look at festive christmas setting. And somehow here I am, wearing a hermes blindfold and participating in some stick on piata smashing activities.

You will have to wait until December to see how we did it MM style.

bombing at nyary 604

I went to Melbourne just last week. or maybe a few weeks ago now...time seems to be flying lately. No wonder they banned the concorde, supersonic time travel is dangerous!

Nyari 604 invited me to come to melbourne and share my flower bombing skills with the garden state! You can imagine, I was more wrapped than a bouquet, ribbon and all. But you know what? I was so nervous,  I was beside myself both ways. Excitedly terrified.  What if they didnt appreciate my outfits... what if my jokes are only funny in Sydney. What if I fainted from all the pressure?! What if a bunch of man nerds turned up wearing multi pocket'ed vests and goggles thinking we were having an afternoon of blowing shiz up? No!

We had night classes, brunch classes and afternoon tea time classes. And I swear I just wanted to lock the door so that none of my new bombing friends could escape. I wanted to stay there forever!
Of course I was so busy being busy and rubbing peoples bombs on my face and being in love with everyone,  I didnt really take many photos. So I have gathered from bombers blogs and instaface. You can read more about it here and here if you insist!
Thank you SO MUCH Jenny and Adi. I cant wait to come back. x
AND thank you to my new lovely melbourne friends for coming to bomb with me!

too cute right? Al Turnbull wished her bomb would last for..

something

I want to have to need to share something with you! SOMETHING.
"Something is all about strong girls with strong minds who are changing the world one step at a time with their creative take on every day life. "
The beautiful mind of designer Natalie Wood - of  Something Else by Natalie Wood has created an exclusive line of clothes to make you feel awesome.
Mega bestie and associate enthusiast/mylee milkshake mosh pit maker- Mylee Grace and I were asked by the Something Else'rs if we would feature in the campaign for the new collection. You can understand I almost pee'd my plants with excitement!

In theory, the fabulous idea to shoot my photos at the flower markets was awesome.
Until I was standing there in a mini dress in sub zero eskimo friendly temperatures.
I also realised that I am infact, not a model, and I hate having my photo taken. Mylee, chose to shoot at home with the powers of her anti bad vibe shield protecting her from bad angles.

Find out more here and you can shop here!

THANK YOU NATALIE WOOD. WE LOVE YOU.
And Jedd Cooney, and Lanny and Skye we love you too.
And Rocio, you get a big heart too.
xx

sylve awesomeness

I have a new BFF (best friend forever) Her name is Sylve Colless. She is so awesome.
So awesome infact that when I first saw her, I thought- I want to be friends with this girl, buuuuut Im not going to talk to herShe made me nervous.
She just had double shot awesomeness beaming out of her.
And I think I was wearing tap shoes.
I just felt like it wasn't the right time. You know that feeling?
Well anyway, years have gone by, and now we are friends! Hoorah!
We spent the day together in The Flower Drum home office (the garden) snapping snaps of snap dragons and then went off to Kimbricki tip in search of wardrobe length pieces of wood. We trespassed our way through some abandoned greenhouses and also emptied out her entire car in fear of being killed by a tarantula. And that was only on our first day of being BFF! Can you hardly wait to hear about our next day out?

a little madness in spring

I haven't been this up to my elbows in flowers since, well ever.
I actually feel like if I sneeze, I would blow out jasmine. Seriously. Actually. Really.

Last week I was excited to be called upon once again by the girliest girls at Alannah Hill. This time, they told me they were putting a little madness into spring,
and I needed to be a part of it. So what happened?

Imagine -  The Flower Drum versus high tea with the mad hatter for the colour blind.
Peek a boo posies peeking from cutey patoooty pastel tea cups and rose garlands pouring out from baby baby pink tea pots. All beautifully collided with kilometers of ribbons coloured by the tears of a rainbow (thats acid rain fyi)

All Alannah Hill windows around Australia and New Zealand have lost the plot.
Go in now and check it this collaboration. BYO milk.

The Rat Pack

In life we have our friend friends, and our work friends. These guys are my work friends.

Generally speaking its the norm to never let these social circles collide.
No one wants to take Mark from IT to the club. Right? Nor Jenny from accounts.
But I so wish The Rat Pack were my "Hey do you want to go to the mall and get our nails did" friends. Friend A  (left) of The Rat Pack has often tried to break the barrier of work friend, to friend friend by inviting me to Italy or offering to pick me up in his Ferrari and take me out for dinner. He has even suggested we open a pizza section in my shop so we can serve pizza and peonies.

I know what you think. Very great idea. Yes Indeed.
